Hey guys,

I’ve obviously been thinking a lot about what’s happening in Haiti and wanted to write a quick email and let you know about a great organization working to get relief and products to everyone there.  PSI (Population Services International) is a global health organization working to prevent really deadly diseases like HIV, malaria and diarrheal disease in some of the poorest countries around the world.  I’m an Ambassador to their Child Survival program and last year I traveled with them to Southern Sudan.  The trip changed my life in a profound way.

PSI isn’t a relief organization, they are really great at getting large quantities of health products to people. I was so impressed and inspired by what I saw in Southern Sudan – the impact of such small, cost-effective interventions and the efficiency with which PSI distributes them to hard to reach, resource-poor areas is really incredible.

I know you’re watching the news, anxious about the situation in Haiti, as I am, and wondering what you can do to help.  I hope you’ll consider joining me and supporting PSI as they mobilize assistance to the millions of Haitians affected by the earthquake.  All donations received will help PSI and its partners provide life-saving products to clean and sanitize local water supplies along with general humanitarian relief for earthquake victims as they transition from basic survival to recovery.  With over 20 years of experience in the country, they have a network that will allow for quick and efficient distribution of life-saving products that can prevent outbreaks that are so common in post-disaster settings.

Updates on my life...

It's been awhile since I've written, but I've found myself with some down time on set so I figured I'd reach out and say hello. London's been wonderful and I'm having such a blast working here/ figuring my way about town. I feel lucky to be in the company of such a quality crew and cast. It certainly takes some of the edge off of being so far away from home and loved ones. Hard to believe that we're nearing the end of the finish line already!

Taking a step aside from all of that, I wanted to let you all know that I've recently teamed up with the folks at GlaxoSmithKline and the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (http://www.thegcf.org/) in an ongoing effort to educate women about cervical cancer and what we can do to help protect ourselves.

Much like some of you, I've been thinking a lot more about my future and the possibility of being a mother one day. I have to say, I was rather taken aback to hear that cervical cancer, and even cervical pre-cancers, can have an impact on a woman's ability to have a child. It's also pretty startling to realize that in the U.S., cervical cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women in their 20s and 30s! As young women, it’s so important for us to talk to our doctors about protecting our cervical health, through things like getting pap tests and getting vaccinated against cervical cancer. I know I want to stay healthy for whatever the future may bring!

I'm really looking forward to being a part of this project and continuing to educate myself so that I can share more info with all of you.

This is my week...

Man, yesterday was a blast doing Leno!  I love this band...so much.  
They are all such amazing players and the vibe just feels so good.  I 
am really starting to jones for the road.  Hopefully, I will have some 
news by the end of next week as to what  our plans are for touring 
this summer.  The next few weeks are gonna be a little hectic but I'm 
not complaining.  It's a really different situation this go-around in 
that I really feel comfortable talking about this record and how proud 
I am of it.  You know me...a bit self deprecating and all...but I 
gotta say, the record is everything I ever wanted it to be.  No 
regrets....ever.

Heading up to Canada to do a few days of promotion there and then East 
Coast bound for a week or so to do a few shows as well as Jimmy Fallon 
on June 5 and The View on the 9th.  Daniel, Mike and I are gonna do 
the trio thing at Joe's Pub on the 3rd which should be great.

Hope everyone is happy and healthy.  I gotta get runnin...just wanted 
to check in and give a little more than 140-character "hey"....

Welcome to the new site!

Welcome to the new site, folks!  As you might have guessed, this is the new album cover art. I was lucky enough to work with one of my favorite photographers, Reed Krakoff and as usual,  his vision, team, precision, etc... made for an exceptionally easy, breezy shoot. Frolicking around in fishnets isn't necessarily the most comfortable idea for me but to be honest, it was  quite cool to get "done up" while maintaining that sense of self. We were all on the same page in terms of creating something that came across as classic, timeless and confident and I think we got there. I really love the whole vibe.

Anyway....so there's a bunch of new features/things on the site that, to be honest, I don't completely understand but hey--I watched the Oprah episode on Facebook last week so why not just throw myself into the game, right?? You'll be seeing a lot more to that end very soon.

We're also in the process of putting a band together for some shows, TV appearances, online "things" and what have you...  I am just beyond ready to for this record to find it's way out in the world. Viola and I will be doing some acoustic gigs in the coming weeks but the band is definitely going to be the focus, with a plan to hopefully tour late summer.

The song, "I Could Break Your Heart Any Day Of The Week" is coming out tomorrow (March 17) on iTunes.  It's definitely a pop-ditty but more in vein of Todd Rundgren or  Harry Nilsson than the typical fare the word "pop" tends to conjure up . Later this week, we're making what we hope will be a pretty amazing video with my ever-creative friend David Schlussel. He came up with the crazy concept and will be at the helm of all of the chaos (thank goodness....i've wanted to work with him for a long time). I'll be sure to keep you updated once it's in the can.

 happy sunday!

just wanted to pop in to say a quick hello and wish everyone a great end to their weekend.

i've been in florida visiting family for the past few days, enjoying the incredible weather before it gets too hot to handle. we even had a lovely dinner last night complete with family, a few close friends and my guy (in town during a day off from the road) .....you know it's a good meal when small talk subsides and the conversation takes a turn to ufos and pyramids. :) 

the only other thing to report is that i'm still recovering from surgery to remove my wisdom teeth. i mean, good gracious...OUCH! painful stuff. joni was terrific company but couldn't exactly assist when it came to grabbing me some water or jello; i was laid up in bed for a good 2 days. millions of people get their wisdom teeth out, sure, but the recovery involves the most annoying, gratingly dull pain. of course the first time i venture out of the house was to the local pet store to grab the pup more dog food before i left for florida. while i'm paying i see a small ruckus outside and sure enough there are a few random photogs standing outside my car. i look down and notice in my tooth pain-haze, i ran out for this quick trip without putting on my engagement ring (or running a comb through my hair lol). i tried to hide my hand but i had to drive for god's sake!! i just instantly knew that something would be made of this utter silliness. i'm sure most of you reading this don't have a clue or really care but i wanted to take the opportunity to say that i am still VERY HAPPILY engaged to be married. 

what a bizarre world we live in, huh??

Hello Folks!

hello from the comfort/confines of my bed on a perfectly beautiful tuesday afternoon.

i'm trying to relax a bit before the inevitable torture of getting my wisdom teeth removed later today (although anything is a better alternative to the mind-numbing pain these useless teeth have put me through already). i'm just a big baby....but the dentist FREAKS me out.

in any event, sorry for the extended break from blogging. i will be making a concerted effort to be better at this part of the job. promise.

it's been nice to have had some downtime at home after traveling quite a bit this year and before we starting bouncing around for the album. joni's had plenty of attention and love from everyone (including some new suitors). i've been messing around with my new optigan (AMAZING), obsessively watching "west wing" reruns and listening to some groovy new tunes floating around the house. overall, life is pretty good. 

speaking of the album, we decided on the cover last week and are prepping to shoot a video sometime mid-month (with the most genius treatment). 

i'm also proud to be on the cover of the april issue of one of my favorite mags, MARIE CLAIRE. it's on stands march 17th and i believe that there's an opportunity for 10,000 people who buy the magazine to download a free track off the record. pretty cool of them, huh??
